Ghadir Abu Leil-Cooper attended Durham University where she received a BSc and a PhD in Theoretical Physics. She had joined Barings in February 1997 as a senior investment analyst. Ghadir became an investment manager on the global emerging markets equity team during 2000, with responsibility for research and stock selection within the emerging Europe, Middle East, and Africa regions. She is the head of the materials sector team and is a member of the telecoms and resources global sector teams. Prior to this she joined the firm from BZW Asset Management, where she specialised in the Middle East, North Africa, and Latin America. Ghadir currently manages the Baring Eastern Europe fund.

Objective

The investment objective of the Fund is to achieve long-term capital growth in the value of assets by investing in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). The fund will invest at least 70% of its total assets at any one time in equities and equity related securities, as described below, of companies domiciled in the MENA region or of companies exercising the predominant part of their economic activity in the MENA region. For this purpose, total assets exclude cash and ancillary liquidities.
